What makes a successful blog

It’s now been a while posting on this blog. I periodically look at the stats to see how many people read it and I’m pleasantly surprised about the number of visitors.

There are a few blogs I visit regularly, generally because they either tell a personal story like Humming Bird in Hyde’s or they have interesting comments or info from different sources.

There are then lots of blogs out there that are just a collection of pictures. And those seem to be the ones that get the most traffic. And that’s confirmed by the stats of my own. When I look at the most read articles it tends to be those that contains words like Abercrombie, AussieBum, underwear and similar (I just got this post a few more clicks by just adding those words lol). And the difference is quite remarkable. I just hope that’s more to do with lots of people looking for that kind of content than with everyone being utterly bored with my own personal posts!

But don’t worry (or do) for as much as it’s nice to see lots of visitors in the stats, I’m not intending to covert this blog into just a collection of pictures, although a bit of eye candy never hurt anyone…

If you’re a blogger yourself, it would be interesting to know whether that’s your own experience as well, get in touch ;-)

One in one out?

If you read my blog you may remember at the beginning of the year I posted about a guy I met on New Year’s (New Year! and The guy). Well, I had decided to forget AN mostly because my logical assessment was telling me there was no future and pretending otherwise may just end up hurting him.

Well, the thing is that a couple of weeks later I decided to text him; after all we can’t all resist a sweet, can we? especially a good looking one 10 years younger than yourself. We met the following weekend. But then we met again the following one, and then the next and basically we’ve been meeting every weekend once or lately twice since then.

At the beginning I thought it would be just a bit of fun, we used to meet after my friends were ready to go home so it prolonged my nights out, which is always good.

The whole thing has turned up a bit complicated. We sometimes are more than just friends and sometimes we’re just that, always difficult to find out what’s gonna be. I’m finding it really difficult to read this guy. And in the process it seems it’s me who’s got all the chances of getting hurt, how have the tables turned!

The thing is last weekend, while out in a Soho club, he seemed to be having one of those days when he’s just a friend. So at some point I was getting frustrated, when I happened to see a cute guy that used to work at the gym I go! I actually posted about him some time ago and in the meantime he had left the gym.

So I thought I’d give it a try, and after a few mutual glances I thought it was time for action so I went to him pretending to be just going to the bar and said hi, after all, that’s the polite thing to do, isn’t it?. We had a brief conversation and then got my drink. Some minutes later we “happened” to coincide again and this time he pulled out his number on a card!

We’ve exchanged a few messages and should be meeting soon after a failed attempt earlier this week. He seems very keen, sweet and probably as young as AN. And his name also happens to start with A! so he’ll be AR. He may make a good replacement for AN should he fade away. After all they say you should hope for the best and plan for the worst…

PS: I’m so desperate for a holiday in the sun… can’t take London’s weather anymore!

Big brother is after you, pervert!

It seems Labour have gone mad again, and in their quest to control your live they’ve decided that they also want to control your porn, and it may be that what you like or watch could land you in prison and in the sexual offenders register!

So you may be wondering what’s all this about? Well, the government plans to criminalise the possession of images depicting scenes of sexual violence with a sentence of up to three years in prison.

It doesn’t matter whether the pictures are completely simulated, a bit of fun role play, as long as they depict what could be considered violence, or as the law simply describes as ”extreme”. So if you like a bit of spanking, bondage, or BDSM, you could be in real trouble even if nobody got harmed and was between consenting adults. And the worse is that it’s left completely open to interpretation!

Even worse, the images would be a criminal offence only if they’re for sexual purposes. So the same image on a horror film would be fine but not if it is in an erotic or porn film or belong to a set of pictures with sexual purposes. So it basically criminalises intent rather than an action where no harm was done and only for possessing them.

Even the Home Office in its consultation document admits that there is no evidence linking violent pornography to acts of non-consensual violence, yet still they want to ban it simply because they do not like it and think that we cannot be trusted to see it without going off the rails.

They intend to get Royal Assent for a new bill by 8th May and then pass it into law.

Now, if you care about this bill making it – and you should – have a look at one of the following links with further information, and in particular Backslash who are campaigning against it:

Even if you think it doesn’t affect you because you’re not interested in BDSM in the slightest, this is a basic issue of individual freedoms being eroded by a nanny state, and that’s something you should be concerned with!

Hedonism

With a blog title like mine there’s no surprise I was delighted when I came across a blog called De Comala a Macondo with an article about the hedonistic lifestyle by Walter Riso.

The post is in Spanish but you can read an English translation at the Best Gay Bloggers Blog.

As a short sumary, Walter says:

“I think we could be better off psychologically, if we follow some precepts to give us pleasure without guilt. It is a question of having an open mind to the possibilities that life offers us, take them and make them our own, expropriate them.”

And then produces these 4 basic principles:

1. Take time for enjoyment.
2. Decide to indulge
3. Explore, research, investigate
4. Don’t over-rationalize pleasant emotions.

All in all an ode to enjoyment.
